Interview with Aviva Chomsky
The initial idea of the project is to prove that any specific profession can fall under the umbrella of design. Professor Claudia Marina has done an incredible job introducing us to different actors of design, both good and bad.
I specifically remember her lecture on humanitarianism and how, despite designers' best intentions on creating objects that held a specific demographic, because of their implicit biases, their end products might be more harmful than helpful. To expand on this idea,
I want us to look at immigration to the U.S. as a case study, and specifically how the concept of illegality was designed to target the Latino population. Subsequently, how there is a need of illegality to sustain this new world order. Read the interview with Aviva here.

La idea inicial del proyecto es demostrar que cualquier profesión específica puede englobarse dentro del ámbito del diseño. La profesora Claudia Marina ha hecho un trabajo increíble al presentarnos a diferentes actores del mundo del diseño, tanto positivos como negativos. Recuerdo especialmente su clase sobre el humanitarismo y cómo, a pesar de las buenas intenciones de los diseñadores a la hora de crear objetos destinados a un grupo demográfico concreto, debido a sus sesgos implícitos, sus productos finales pueden resultar más perjudiciales que útiles. Para ampliar esta idea, me gustaría que analizáramos la inmigración a Estados Unidos como caso de estudio y, en concreto, cómo se diseñó el concepto de ilegalidad para señalar a la población latina.
